Maybe...just maybe...Kelly and I will get the Christmas present of not having to buy 2 types of diapers! But I'm not holding my breath! Although it definitely seems like we are starting to "turn a corner" with Riley...and he's dictating it. Kelly and I both backed off on all the potty talk when it became apparent Riley wasn't ready. I'll drop it into normal conversation here and there...like when you use the big boy potty you can wear your Star Wars underwear - that I have in the drawer right by his "wake up" diaper (pull ups) so he sees them every morning.
Then one night last week...we went somewhere and Riley was going to bed really late...but he said I want to potty on the potty. I thought just so he could get out of bed ONE MORE TIME! But he sat on the potty and even went through the motions of wiping! LOL! But in the end said I can't Mommy! So we just move right along.
Then all of the sudden yesterday - he literally stripped ALL his clothes off and went to sit on the potty. Kelly and I figured it was another false alarm, and he likes his privacy so we just stayed away....and lo and be hold! He goes to the potty! Of course, he forgot to "hold his business" down so he peed all over the floor and everything, but I'll take it!! Later last night when I was putting his lotion on him after bath, he held his wee-wee down and said - I have to hold it down like this when I potty Mommy. So....stay tuned in the never ending story of when Riley will finally be potty trained!
Unfortunately, he hasn't mentioned it again since....

I know! I know!
Riley's 2yr old teacher is now his afternoon teacher in the 3yr old class, so we get to see her when we pick Ri up from school. This week she told me Ms. Amy told her Riley is the only one in class that answers her questions. That not one of the other kids will do it yet! So I guess this is one of the residual benefits of being in the older 2yr old class last year. I'm sure it won't last long, but we'll take any opportunity for Riley to be the positive influence in class! :)
Now if someone could just positively influence him to potty?! :)
Ms. Amy says he knows what to do and stands there trying every day, but that he always looks at her and says "I can't do it!" Bless his little heart! Daddy has trouble going in public places too...so he gets that honest!
My stance is...he's not going to graduate high school or get married in pull-ups! What can you do?! Just like with all other things...he'll do it in his own good time! When he's good and ready!

Riley's 3 Year Old Stats
We finally has Riley's 3 yr old checkup this past Friday. It ended up being good timing for a follow up for last Friday's boo boo too! Efficient! You know I love that!! Once again- we are blessed with a happy, healthy boy!
Height-41" which is > 97%
Weight-37 3/4 lbs which is 90%
They calculate his BMI now, and that was 15.7 which was 25-50%.
The only topic I had for discussion was potty training bc Riley is just REALLY not showing any interest! Fact, if I even mention it-he sort of has a melt down. Dr Jim said for a boy to not be potty trained at 3 is totally normal, and I'm doing the right thing by not turning it into a negative or a power struggle. That I should just keep mentioning it, and it will click one day. Stay tuned...

Night 4 in the Big Boy Bed!
So we are on night 4 in the big boy bed! Night 3 the newness had worn off, and it took FOREVER to get him to go to sleep! And I'm TRYING not to start a really bad habit of him thinking I have to lie in there with him every night...but it's so sweet and I'm tired so I want to too! :)
He did really well tonight though! So far he's slept through the night every night too..I'm still a little freaked out about him walking to our room in the dark, etc. So we'll see how it goes when that happens!
And he's given up the paci too b/c you can only have the paci in the little bed (the crib is still in his room as a backup). So 2 big boy milestones down....now if we could ONLY turn a corner on the potty training!
He got big boy Star Wars underwear for his birthday and cried when we "tried them on"! They are scratchy and hard Mommy! Take them OFF! He may have to follow Dad's lead and go commando...desperate times call for desperate measures! :)

You just can't make this stuff up!
Yes! Yes! I know! I have A LOT of catching up to do! I'll get to it eventually! It seems we haven't had one spare second lately and the next few weeks don't look so good either!
But I had to post this one real quick before I forget. So Riley is totally NOT ready to potty in the potty! He screams, cries, etc if you even mention it! But on the other hand - he went in the potty by himself and pulled his pants down and sat on it 3 different times last week, so I'm optimistic that it's going to "click" any moment now! We just try to be supportive and seize the moment any time he shows promise.
At bath time, we now have a game called "Naked Booty Boy" that we have to play every night before and after Riley's bath/shower. He literally loves to run a lap around the upstairs of our house from our room to his room then over and jump on this bean bag in his corner with his stuffed animals! I used to just say "Naked Booty Boy" when he would do it, so that has now become "Mommy - I want to 'Naked Booty Boy'"!
So last night he did the "Naked Booty Boy", and while he was doing it - I was unpacking his toothbrush from our weekend trip. All of the sudden he comes around the corner from my room and says "Come here Mommy!" and grabs my hand. He leads me all the way to our closet, then points to the floor and says "I potty!" so proudly! It took it a second for it to register...then I was like "You what?!?! WE don't potty in the floor Riley! We potty in the potty!" Immediately, his bottom lip sticks out and starts quivering! Awe..I hurt his feelings! I gave him a hug and told him it's okay! Next time he'll go in the potty..then he helped me clean it up.
So Kelly was downstairs doing something..and Riley ran to the stairs and said "Daddy! I go potty!" Kelly was like you did?! In the potty? Riley said no! I pottied in the floor! And Kelly was like we don't potty in the floor like a dog!! And Riley said "Dog?! The dog says Ruff Ruff Daddy! I pottied in the floor!
By this point, I was seriously about to pee in my pants I was laughing so hard! And Kelly was doing the same as he walked up the stairs having this conversation!
I just looked at him when he came around the corner and said - we just can't make stuff up this funny! Hence - the title of the post!
There was another one of these similar "literal" conversations we had earlier in the day, so I'll have to rack my brain to try to remember that one later!

Just a quick post!
Because I should already be in bed!!
Riley had a MAJOR accomplishment today! He teetee'd in the big boys potty at school! Yippee! I have a whole other story about when he did it for the 1st time at home last week! It was with GiGi though! I'll have to go into that later! ha!
Anyway! His teacher is bound and determined to get him potty trained, and I'm not going to complain! Every time we've tried at home, he's just hopped right up so maybe the flood gates (pun intended) are about to open on the potty training!
I've heard different trains of thought on whether to use pullups or to skip them altogether, but his teacher requested them be brought to school so maybe that's the trick! We'll see! Hopefully this is the beginning of the end! :)
