Babywearing Yea!

So it's funny to see the different personalities in Riley and Conley already...and one MAJOR difference is that almost from the beginning we could swaddle Riley and lie him down on his back awake in his crib/bassinet/etc and he would stare then fall asleep on his own. Conley on the other hand...can be mouth wide open drooling asleep, and you put him ANYWHERE on his back and he's screaming within 30 seconds! Hence, why he's sleeping with Kelly and I! I can fight that battle later when I'm getting more than 3 consecutive hours of sleep at a time! :)

Anyway..he has moments although very unpredictable where I can put him down in his crib on his side or I know call the baby police - stomach...and he sleeps like a CHAMP! Yesterday he slept 4 hours during the day like that! I tried to do the SAME thing at 11pm last night - he's not having it at ALL!

So...I keep finding myself realizing it's 4pm and all I've done is breastfeed and hold a sleeping baby! Great way to spend time with him and bond, but eventually I'm going to have to "function". So I did some research and bought a Maya Wrap to carry Conley! I got it yesterday...and we are testing it out today - which is how I'm even able to blog! He's asleep against my chest in the wrap and I have 2 free hands!! Babywearing is very predominate in other cultures - think Africa, etc where life must go on - you don't get maternity leave to sit on the sofa and veg all day. Plus, I think the main thing is that it recreates the warmth and confined environment of the womb where he's close to me and can hear my heart beat and smell me. So far so good!

I actually used one I had from when I had Riley this past Sunday to go to the pumpkin patch and dinner afterwards and it worked great. Much better than lugging him around in the car seat which he HATES by the way! Another diametrically opposed opinion from his brother who never minded the car seat. But that wrap is what's called a "pouch" sling, and it was freaking me out that it was pushing his head too far forward into his chest and cutting off his airway. He slept the entire time in it, but I kept having to check to make sure he was breathing!

Stay tuned...we'll see how well the wrap works it's magic for our Halloween festivities over this coming weekend and Monday night.
